Each day I am touched by something a classmate shares here.  I laugh, cry, and dust off memories that had been put away long ago.  How blessed we are to have come from such a versatile and wonderful group of people!

To those attending this weekend's events I can hardly wait to see you!  To those unable to attend, you will be held in our hearts.  It is with deep gratitude and sincerity that I am a 1980 Memorial Charger!

Now let's gear up and ROCK Tulsa's socks off!!!

I would like to compliment both the reunion committee members and the webmaster, and echo Darlene's comment, that the list of reunion attendees is a broad spectrum of all former Chargers....whether they were a jock, a preppie, a "soc" (ok, was a soc the same as a prep, or just closely related??)(I digress), a Masque & Gavel person, a "smoker", or member of any other clique we had present at Memorial. It's wonderful so many people can return to reminisce the times of our innocent (cough, cough!) days of high school   Many thanks to the volunteers who put the details in order.

In my absence (due to wedding commitments), please lift in Charger salute, a collectible Lamar cup filled with an icee, sugary beverage sans alcohol...or not!!

Hello Fellow Chargers - I was due to fly in this morning to attend our 30th class reunion.  It is with a huge amount of disappointment that I am unable to attend and get reacquainted with everyone.  I hope all of you have a wonderful time reminiscing, reliving past glory days, and truly remembering what a bond we all have.  As previous posts have indicated, it doesn't matter what clique you were in, 30 years later we are all on a level playing field!  I am sure all of us have had joys, sorrows, and everything in between.  We would be foolish to believe that anyone's life has been perfect.  I want to thank the reunion committee for the outstanding job they've done in planning, communicating and trying to include everyone.  You all deserve a toast on Friday night!  So my friends, raise a glass and know that while you are all enjoying the evening, there are those of us who couldn't be there that are wishing they were and raising their own glass wherever they may be!  Here's to the Class of 1980!

Here, here, y'all.  (Sorry, after living in texas for 26 yrs, it's tough, not to say y'all every other word.)  I agree, never ceases to amaze me what time and maturity will accomplish.  Cheers, thanks a lot to the folks who put this event together.  Y'all better be careful, because thanks to Mr. Sherrill, looks like we're going to be on candid camera and broadcast "live" into cyber space.  (Thanks John Lee for the warning)

The day is here! For those of you who can't make it, I hope you'll join me in front of your computers tonight, with your favorite beverage, and enjoy the webcast.

And those of you who didn't like your yearbook photos,  I didn't take them. I just did my job and posted them!

A Good Time Was Had By All !!

Hello and salutations to all the Memorial1980 members and friends!

Simply put, in my opinion, Friday night's Class of 1980 reunion event at D'Novo's was spectacular.  I had so much fun reconnecting and seeing old friends and reaquainting with some which I barely knew and ultimately being introduced and even introducing myself to faces I recognized but never knew in high school.  It was great seeing the people that were there and finding out about their lives, families and careers.

I cannot say enough about the job which Pat Calhoun, John Lee and ALL of the others executed in putting it all together.  The result of their collective labors and efforts made for a great evening.  Of course they were wonderful hosts and the atmosphere was relaxed but yet very festive.  And you all know that it had to be pretty intense work to make this happen and turn out so wonderful.  Please be sure to acknowledge the committee's efforts and thank them for a "job well done!"  We all know these don't come around very often so it's important to let these people know they are GREATLY appreciated.

For those of you who could not attend Friday night's event, I would encourage and even exhort you to attempt to move Heaven and earth to try to make it to the Hard Rock Casino and Hotel for tonight's activities.  I can tell you it will be so much fun for you and everyone that attends!

I never cease to be amazed at how incredible people can be, and the Tulsa Memorial Class of 1980 seems to be exceedingly incredible in personal character, integrity, drive, ambition and most of all greatness.  These are people proud of their husbands and wives, children and careers, simply trying to live the best life they can with what they have.  My admiration of them grew exponentially last night.

It was great seeing all of you last night.  I compare how I look forward to this evening's festivities to the old Heinz Ketchup commercial with the Carly Simon song "Anticipation" as the soundtrack motif.  Simply put, I can't wait!  For those unable to attend, we will simply miss you!

Sincerely and Respectfully,

Greg Phenix

I also would like to thank the committee and everyone involved in putting on such a wonderful event.  I really can't thank you enough.  Diane commented on the wonderful time she had as well and felt very welcomed and included.  She was really worried that over the two days she would get bored, but that was not the case.  That goes to show that you guys are a class act.

I know the first night when I arrived, I was like, "Damn, I don't know anybody here!", but then faces and voices became recognizable and it really felt like home meeting with old friends and conversing with people that I hadn't had the pleasure of meeting in high school.

Thanks again and stay safe.

-Donnie

P.S.  I did finally find me in the group photo.  I knew I was there and didn't fall off!  Thanks for the help Donna!

Hello Classmates,

Are you on Facebook? If so, please join our class' Facebook page. We'll post more frequent updates there and have a better opportunity to find each other and interact more frequently. If you know of a classmate that is not on our FB page, please let them know about it.

We're trying to build our attendance for this site and the FB site because it lowers the cost of notifying each other of our upcoming reunion.

As Karen McGinty-Smith would've said (in 1980) "Luv ya, bye bye"!

I am just heartbroken to hear of Beck Ridgeway's passing. She was always such a special person. I'm guessing it was heart related but of course I don't know. The world is a bit dimmer without her light in it. And, oh my gosh, that fabulous smile. I was so thrilled that she endured so many medical challenges and still seem to prevail with such grace and love. Carpe' diem, friends.
